Michela Pomaro, ARA PACIS

Room 22

«My room, number 22, is inspired by the Ara Pacis in the Augustan Campus Martius; I was painting some pictures with flowers and, seeing those wonderful bas-reliefs that surrounded the altar, I thought I would use them for my own work, thus transforming my confetti into a hundred tiles and making them go around the walls of the room. In this and the previous work, Time is on my side at Obraz, I used neon light, precisely because it is soft and not direct, so as to surround and transport people into another dimension, into a parallel world, mine… The light then changed from pink and blue to yellow because it symbolically corresponds to the sun, to happiness, it represents uninhibited affection, openness, change and relaxation.»
Michela Pomaro

«Michela Pomaro shows a great ability to suddenly immerse our imagination in a kind of warm, sulphurous, coloured thermal lake. She herself illustrates her works as if they were an expression of a link between the present and memory. As if the magic of colour held the magic of time. A succession of nuances that increase the perception of the immaterial, the sensitivity of the person who is willing to stop and observe them. In this way she manages, if not to create, to evoke a virtual immobility of thought, which seeks to reflect on the sensations of the past with an inevitably still, almost immobilised, gaze on the present. “Signs and not dreams”, Osvaldo Licini said of his works in an attempt to underline the fracture between ratio and poiesis, the rational and the poetic. On closer inspection, Pomaro’s chromatic spaces create a purely unreal dimension
