Benito Ligotti, SOCIAL CONTROL

Four large canvases surrounded the visitor, with the outline of the world clearly visible in the background. In the foreground, the composition was made up of hundreds of tiles with a small mark in the centre. As they approached, the indistinct became distinct. These were hundreds of fingerprints that made Edolo part of a project underway since the end of 2013, with which the artist wants to bring the issue of privacy and the treatment of our sensitive data to the attention of everyone. Fingerprints left spontaneously by passers-by, on dozens of public occasions, in a sort of mapping of humanity through its unique and distinctive sign. What do we reveal about ourselves, perhaps without realising it? What could we define as a unique trait of our personality? What image do we associate with humanity and collectivity? What is the world? These are some of the questions to which such a work and, with it, Contexto 2017, opened.
