Katja Noppes, IL GESTO PROVIENE DA UN LUNGO E LENTO MOVIMENTO MENTALE, IN NIENTE ORDINATO, SOLO PIENO

Room 19
Invited by Giovanni Frangi

Weight equation (archive).
My work has an archive shelf which is in constant process. It is not a finished work nor will it ever be, small gestures can move, delete or replace the space it occupies.
They have the same immediacy as what we do with a simple click every day: it is a place that orders and archives, but unlike the machine the gesture comes from a long, slow mental movement, in nothing ordered but full.
It hosts independent works and unplaced compositions.
The finished and the process are shown at the same level: it is a scene of desire, a scene of illusion and also a configuration of visibility, of the inexorable transparency of all things.
One day one could imagine emptying it out and putting the contents in a composition of various cases, for a further process of transcoding, in a technologically advanced era.
But this is my utopian vision in archiving material that will be valuable as a matrix for another artifice in the future. The two works exhibited in Giovanni Testori’s study room come from this Archive.

Katja Noppes was born in Starnberg (Munich) in 1967. She lives and works in Milan.
