Domenico Pievani, THE MOUNTAIN WATCHES ME

«The mountain watches me», Cézanne use to say when observing Sainte-Victoire and Domenico Pievani said the same when looking at the Edolo landscape. By overturning subject and object, the artist has shifted the usual point of view and reversed the roles of observer and visible. His phrase, which emerged from the landscape itself through the perforated steel, stimulated action, acted as a spur to the viewer, made tangible a feeling that one sometimes experiences when in contact with nature. It overturned an anthropocentric vision, inviting a new awareness of the gaze.
