Fulvia Mendini, AVIARY

Room 18

«I discover the enigma of beauty in nature.
I would like to fix the mystery and grace of flowers on the canvas.
I would like to transmit the aroma of a jasmine, a rose and a violet.
I chase shapes and colours that belong to the wings of butterflies and the feathers of birds.
The branch of a flowering tree becomes a small enamelled universe in which to express dreams and desires.»
Fulvia Mendini

«Fulvia Mendini’s works are always characterised by a highly decorative linear and synthetic language, in which influences from graphic design, illustration and the Arts and Crafts tradition can be felt. The flowers, insects and birds that appear in his works function as the headwords of an original visual vocabulary, in which echoes of Eastern and Western artistic culture are blended. The artist uses these signs as modules to compose delicate floral tapestries, evoking both the luminous circular structures of the rose windows of Christian churches and the impertinent sand and rice architectures of Tibetan mandalas.»
